what does it take to get a drink in this place.

obsession with 'The Postal Service' at the moment, love them. I'm a big fan of death cab anyway and to hear Gibbard voice with upbeat almost electro beats is great!

things have been getting to me this week, i've applied to uni's and next year is becoming closer and tangible. chris is sorting out his house for next year, moving in with some people from his uni and tbh it bothers me that next year i won't wake up next to him 6 out of 7 mornings a week.
but never mind this year is going to be big, i can develop and grow on my own at uni, in a new way that moving this year didn't quite enable me. i want a big new experience. to break my comfort zone. to meet new people. to explore a new place.

anyway back to obsessions, swallows-
how gorgeous are these swallows, on hellohandmadepaperie's etsy :)  and are designed by shanna murray

so i've gotten quite into these cutesy animal illustrations, this little fox is also lovely but i have no idea where it's from!

might do a couple of little illustration soon :)

another good news is that i finished my installation.

i really like the effect the water had on the painting, have a look at my flickr for more pictures.
very visual this blog, i'm starting my portfolio work so i'm trying to keep some imagery to inspire me. going to go in hunt of old medical books tomorrow...somewhere :/

start a brand new colony.

where everything will change.

j'ai fini!

well i've finished the background. (yes this is just a background piece :| )

i'll get a better picture up when i've finished the whole installation, which i probably would of done today, but laryngitis has struck me down again and i feel so ill.

a piece i did in my sketchbook. even though apparently i chose a tag line and run with it. i just really like that quote.

" Why feel blue?
Triumphs of imagination such as the person you love is 72.8 per cent water. Do not adjust your mind.
There is a fault in reality."

Easton Ellis anyone?

Thought i'd change it, as i think it's more interesting than You, Me and the Continuum which is taken from The Unbearable Lightness of Being (a great book!).

'The better you look, the more you see' is a quote from Bret Easton Ellis' Glamourama, which again is a really great book, macabre.

Went off on a spree off trying to create quotes that sound the same:

The better you cook, the more for tea.

The better the book, the less of a tree.

Olympics Tokyo 1964

title is from a topshop t-shirt chris is wearing.

I love that t-shirt :) he bought it when we went to a rave party because its pretty bright, and has just worn it anyway because he is mesmerised by bright colours, like a magpie for neon.

thought i'd stick in a bit of a progress report on how my heart painting for Life/Death is going.
it is taking my hours.

pictures are lit quite dull and i didn't want to whitewash any detail with the flash, but this means any detail is still quite hard to see. and my desks a state. sorry.

you can see the faint outline of the pieces i have left to do which is still a fair bit, plus i need to somehow develop a self on which to sit the pints of water that the audience is to view the piece through. the water idea has come from a quote by Graphic Designer Alan Fletcher which i has orginal heard as simply "the person you love is 72.8% water" and have recently found it's actually the text from a cover of his book "The Art of Looking Sideways" and the full quote is infact this:
"Why feel blue? Triumphs of imagination such as the person you love is 72.8% water. Do not adjust your mind, there's a fault in reality. Teach yourself ignorance. The belly-button problem."
and from that i wanted to create a piece that questioned the audience, what makes us human?
vital organs, our blood, the water we contain (or that contains us), the tissues and cells we are.
The painting is a literally representation of the physical matter we are, in front of it a barrier of pints of water, a metaphor for the water we contain, and then words which are to be projected across that may describe water or emotion, words that cross paths between the touchable state of water and the psyche of our emotion that forges our characteristics.
i might stick up another blog devoted to another artist who has taken this quote and produced quite graphic work involving the human body, which i quite like. but i'll save that for now.

we are beautiful, we are doomed.

los campesinos tickets came yesterday :) happy can not actually wait. loved seeing them with the cribs, lead singer with the ginger hair was an absolute legend.
and i love the album art to "we are beautiful, we are doomed" it's so cute :)

The lyrics from the song which titles the album makes me think of the painting im doing at the moment, which is pretty much a heart which veins reach across the board.
I cannot emphasise enough that my body is a badly designed, poorly put together vessel harbouring these diminishing, so-called vital organs.
hope my heart goes first.
I HOPE MY HEART GOES FIRST!

Obsessed with these kind of colour schemes and a clash of patterns which i found ages ago not sure of the orgins but they are named under "vogue" in my folders?
anyone have any idea where i've found these?
they are beautiful in any case.
